Steve Aoki to Create Musical About Mozart

Electronic music artist and entertainer, Steve Aoki, is heading in a new musical direction with his upcoming musical. Mozart² is coming out January 2021. It tells the tale of Mozart’s sister, Nan, and the struggles she faces gaining recognition in a male-dominated industry.

Scheduled for January 25, 2021, Mozart² The New Musical will feature music from Steve Aoki himself and is already on Carnegie Hall’s official website. It will take place in Zankel Hall.

Firstly, it features a score by Gregory Nabours and book and lyrics by Tegan Summer. Secondly, choreography is by Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson. Lastly, Mr. Summer and Colette Freedman are writing the story.

The musical will feature many Broadway stars, including Robert Cuccioli, Grace Field,  Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer, Anthony Rapp, Justin Matthew Sargent, and others.

The synopsis reads-

“When the young virtuosa is silenced and banned from all artistic endeavors, she rebels. In this untold story of the greatest composer of all time, two siblings embark on a journey of love, hate, tragedy, and redemption.”

Mozart's sister, Nan, is the focus of Steve Aoki's musical.

Moreover, the upcoming musical gives light to female accomplishments left out by historians. While this is a totally different direction than Aoki’s typical electronic style, this is an exciting new direction. And, Nan is finally getting the recognition she deserves in this upcoming musical.

Right now, a lot of upcoming projects are up in the air. The COVID-19 pandemic has put a pause on live events. A representative for Aoki announced that more information will be available end of August.
