Two Canadian researchers are currently looking into cannabis for preventing and combating COVID-19. According to renowned publication Forbes, Olga and Igor Kovalchuck are researching a specific strain that they’ve both been analyzing for years.
Initially, the two researchers aimed to find a form of cannabis that could help combat cancer and inflammatory diseases. However, when the pandemic began, their focus shifted; they aimed to find a sativa strain that could help prevent the coronavirus.
Olga and Igor Kovalchuck have not been able to confirm that the cannabis strain can prevent the virus; for now, it is only a theory that still needs further testing. If the results from the tests prove their idea to be true, then the next step would be to manufacture the strain as a form of prevention and treatment for COVID-19. Unfortunately, as a result, this particular lineage may no longer be available at local dispensaries.
The duo suggests that although a form of cannabis treatment is possible, there is no guarantee that everyone will have the same effect. The plant is known to affect people differently, so there may not be an official way to identify if someone will react to it negatively or not. There is a possibility that the strain may only make COVID-19 more harmful in some people.
