Cocaine Dealer Told Police He Was an ‘Essential Worker’

A drug dealer in the UK was recently caught having almost $72,000 worth of cocaine in his car. You have to respect the guy’s hustle! Even in these rough climates of quarantine, he is still out there pushing this stuff on people. The police, however, did not find his description of ‘Essential worker‘ as comical.

He was stopped in Swansea Valley where he told police he was a key worker returning back from a night shift. They proceeded to search his car and found a massive package of coke. They quickly stated this drug possession was an intent to supply and “does not qualify as essential work.” Some may argue with them, but that’s a whole different discussion.

The 26-year-old driver, Benjamin Evans, was wearing his work clothes when he was pulled over. This guy even dressed the part to convince the police. He has pleaded guilty and is being held in custody until his sentencing at Swansea Crown Court on May 20. Dyfed-Powys Police detective inspector Steve Lloyd has this to say:

“Trying to pass himself off as a key worker did not succeed. Possessing drugs with the intent to supply does not qualify as essential work…I hope this will serve as a warning to others who wish to bring drugs into the Powys area that it will not be tolerated. We want to let potential criminals know that it is business as usual and we will continue to pursue those who target some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.”

The Coronavirus pandemic has spurred a whole conversation about who is an ‘Essential Worker.’ I think most of us will agree that a drug dealer does not fall into this category.
