Police Targeting Dealers, Not Users, At Okeechobee This Year

This weekend is coming in hot with the Okeechobee Festival making its tremendous return for 2020. This time around, the police force has a particular focus on the matter of illegal substances. Vehicle searches and K9 units will be present during the event, but they’re not looking to pull over everyone. However severe it might sound, police stated they are targeting drug dealers, not users.

This specific enforcement objective means that they will be looking for large quantities of drugs. Sheriff Noel Stephen explained that ‘Our focus is not to target the personal use‘. The department also stated that they will be specially focused on those that ‘prey on the youth‘.

This kind of measure sure seems like a pretty friendly approach. The Sheriff also added that these tactics were chosen to reduce robbery and crime. The Okeechobee Festival seems like it will be on its safest note this year.

With sets by Bassnectar, Clairo, Rüfüs Du Sol, MGK, LSDream and more, the festival has a promising lineup and plenty of hype. The event is expecting nearly 40 thousand attendees, 90% of which are aged 18 to 25.

However friendly this police presence might sound, it is not a free pass. Everyone should stay sharp and safe out there.
