Miami Music Week 2020 is Dead

Well, it’s official—Miami Music Week is canceled. Every major organizer for the dozens of pool and warehouse parties has pulled out, citing the city of Miami’s ban on special events over coronavirus.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez declared a state of emergency on Wednesday. On Thursday, Gimenez announced that he would be making a policy regarding indoor events with more than 250 people and discouraged “smaller gatherings.”

Most organizers stated their events are postponed, and promise information on refunds or credits. There is no word on when music week, originally slated for March 16 to 22, will be moved to. It may not take place until Ultra Music Festival makes its planned return in March 2021.

Here are the organizers and their statements about their events:

BLNK CNVS

BLNK CVNS posted on Friday afternoon that all its events at the Nautilus pool in Miami Beach “are hereby cancelled in light of the recent developments with the COVID-10 virus.”

We will not be moving forward with our scheduled pool parties this year,” the organizer wrote. BLNK CVNS was clear it is not merely postponing the events.

We hope to see you next year in 2021 when we’re back and better than ever,” the organizer wrote. Ticket and table purchasers will receive “more information soon about refunds.”

BLNK CVNS did not address its events at warehouses in Wynwood including MAPS Backlot, Soho Studios and Toejam Backlot in the post, but they are presumably also canceled.

Diskolab

The organizer behind the BPM Festival, Delano South Beach pool parties including Mau5trap, and more, communicated with ticket purchasers on Thursday night.

Our team and everyone we work with is heartbroken about this situation, but the party is postponed for the time being,” Diskolab posted on Facebook.

Diskolab said ticket purchasers will receive an email within seven days “regarding refunds or credits.”

Denial Events

Events at Shore Club, Rockwell Miami and Mokai Lounge were postponed by Denial Events on Thursday night.

It is with massive amounts of disappointment to regretfully have to announce that due to the City of Miami pulling all special event permits, we are postponing all Miami Music Week 2020 events in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus,” Denial Events wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

The organizer said “credits and refund information” will be sent to ticket purchasers in the coming days. Details are being sorted with the ticket provider.

Also, Denial Events hinted at the parties not taking place until a year from now.

We will now be working with tireless amounts of energy to recreate the same magic, only bigger and better, for Miami Music Week 2021,” stated the post signed by Denial Events and 747 Presents.

Miami Music Partners

Miami Music Partners was clear with ticket purchasers on Thursday—its events are not postponed, they’re canceled.

In light of coronavirus (COVID-19) and following the guidelines of the City of Miami Beach as well as the cancellation of all event permits, the Pool Parties at the Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel have been cancelled,” the organizer wrote on Facebook.

Miami Music Partners, which also had events at SLS Brickell, said ticket purchasers would receive an email within 48 hours “regarding the refund.”

Club Space

Renowned Club Space posted on Thursday that “after imagining all the possible ways to make Space MMW happen,” they decided to “postpone all of our upcoming events to a later date.”

The club owned by Insomniac wrote that “in the face of this crisis we will be issuing full refunds for all tickets and tables.”

LIV and STORY

David Grutman, the owner of the two massive Miami nightclubs, posted on Instagram early Thursday that LIV and STORY “will be temporarily pausing operations.” The decision was “out of an abundance of caution” given Miami’s state of emergency declaration.

Any pre-purchased tickets will be refunded,” Grutman wrote. The nightclubs had booked DJs for music week including Deadmau5, Kaskade and Fisher.
