News on Wednesday of the reported cancelation of Ultra Music Festival and the cancelation of Tomorrowland Winter on Thursday over the coronavirus spread has snowballed into not if, but how many artists will skip Miami Music Week entirely.
Shortly after Tomorrowland Winter announced that the French government decided to cancel the weeklong festival, Lost Frequencies posted on Instagram with a heavy heart. The house producer first wrote he was “so much looking forward” to Tomorrowland Winter and was “really sad.” Then he got into Miami Music Week (March 16 to 22).
“For those asking: Super sad Ultra is canceled too and the other festivals also .. I won’t be doing any poolparties in Miami instead as I won’t go to miami at all this year. Rave good but rave safe.”
Lost Frequencies wrote along with a praying hands emoji.
Lost Frequencies was booked on the second to last slot on the UMF Radio stage on Saturday. He didn’t have any music week performances announced and made it clear he wouldn’t play any in lieu of Ultra.
Some of the DJs scheduled to play Ultra also had music week gigs, including Fisher. It is unclear which other DJs booked for Ultra or music week parties will skip Miami altogether. We will keep a running list here as we find out.
Miami Shows Still Going On
Some music week event organizers have indicated they plan to move forward with business as usual. Denial Events and 747 Presents, which are putting on more than a dozen parties with DJs including Oliver Heldens and Benny Benassi, reassured ticket buyers on Wednesday.
“The Festival is not affiliated with our events, which we fully expect to go ahead as planned,” Denial Events and 747 Presents wrote on Facebook.
The possible exodus of artists from Miami began Wednesday when Martin Garrix pulled Ultra from his tour dates. Another big-name DJ, David Guetta, followed suit soon after.
An official announcement by the city of Miami and Ultra on the festival will drop Friday at 9 a.m. ET.
