[Event Review] Green Velvet Returns to NYC!

Tech house DJ, Green Velvet played an intimate show at Teksupport’s 99 Scott Studio on Friday, December 20th. The show helped round out Teksupport’s massive fall lineup this weekend along with Ben Klock’s Photon on Saturday, December 21st.

The Chicago Icon has visited NYC quite a few times in 2019; most recently, Green Velvet presented his famed La La Land at the Brooklyn Mirage in July and played at Electric Zoo festival on Randall’s Island Labor Day weekend. Following Electric Zoo, he also had his own after party at Quantum in Brooklyn.

Local NYC duo Love and Logic kicked off the night to open the show. DJ/Producers Chris Love & AB Logic are the masterminds behind the infamous SOUP NYC events and the SOUP record label. They heated things up until Green Velvet’s set began at 1:30AM for an extended four and a half hour set.

Green Velvet began his set with a number of throwbacks, specifically loved when he dropped Ron Carroll’s Spirit Filled Mix from 2001 of “Get with Him“. He also played a number of tracks from Claude VonStroke, who Green Velvet has newly released track “Jolean” with.

During his set, Green Velvet was joined by some familiar La La Land friends. Eskuche and Layton Giordani hung around to support their friend on stage. Green Velvet also played Eskuche and Prok & Fitch‘s new track “Jack” that was just recently released on his label, Relief Records.

99 Scott is a special and intimate venue, one of my personal favorites. This was my second time seeing Green Velvet at this venue. Last year, same time of year, I caught his Teksupport All Night Long set. Green Velvet is a tech house legend and always puts on an awesome show. Hope to see him back in New York sometime soon!
