Elrow Performing at the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony?

Elrow just announced on their social media channels that they will be at the Olympic Games Ceremony. The Olympics will be held next year in Tokyo, Japan in July. This is definitely huge news for the Spanish firm and the electronic music scene. But don’t go book your Tokyo trip just yet, because there is a catch.

The 28th of December is Spanish Fools’ Day, so the news was a joke by Elrow, as they explained later.

Even though the joke has been explained, electronic music and Elrow have certainly come a long way. So, it would not be that surprising to see this type of performance happening in the future.

Actually, many DJs have already performed at similar sports events. David Guetta was the official artist of the UEFA 2016 Euro and played during the opening and closing ceremonies. Martin Garrix played the closing ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games 2018 in PyeongChang in South Korea and is now the official artist of the UEFA 2020 Euro.

Among other examples, Armin’s ‘Blah Blah Blah‘ was Ajax Amsterdam‘s song this year, using it for their marketing campaign in preparation for the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League and was during celebrations.

So, perhaps the Olympic Games is just waiting for the right time to bring on an electronic music act.
