The Chainsmokers Tell Touching Story in “Family” Video

The Chainsmokers put out a music video for their collaborative track with Kygo, titled “Family” off their new album. The music video tells a very personal and touching story of their close friend, Rory Kramer – a videographer for the production duo. The trio’s relationship grew and the three friends got close while spending time on the road. Most of the video footage is from Rory over the years and gives viewers a special look at all the highs and lows that he goes through.

On July 13th, 2018 my close friend @rorykramer was in a life threatening care accident. At first, editing this crazy story of Rory for a @thechainsmokers music video felt like a big cliche…A massive tastemaker like Rory in an industry I wanted to be in becomes a friend, his friends become my friends and just as everything is great something gnarly happens like a life threatening accident. Then I realized this isn’t a cliche, this is life and this stuff happens all the time. Sometimes it’s by chance but a lot of the time it’s avoidable. This video reminded me that being real with your friends is our biggest responsibility to each other. Rory went through and insane year and I’m just glad we had the chance to support him after everything really hit the fan. Checking up on your friends is cool. Do it before something crazy happens. The video displays the challenges and vulnerabilities that a person can face. Intertwined with a collection of home videos and clips, the uplifting video is delivered as a thank you to everyone who has supported each other through mental struggles.

Even the brightest person like Rory can fall into a dark place. So it highlights how important close friends and family are and how meaningful it is to care about the people nearest to you.
