Marshmello Wins at the AMAs, Avicii as Runner-Up

2019 has definitely been a sweet year for Marshmello. From landing an industry-shaking $60 million residency deal with Kaos (which has now shut operations) to signing on with WME, the American electronic music producer has made headlines throughout the year. And just last night, Marshmello won the title of Favorite Artist Electronic Dance Music (EDM) at the American Music Awards (AMAs).

The Chainsmokers and Avicii were also in the running for the title, the latter of which prompted a fair bit of emotion on social media. Like ourselves, who have ranked Avicii as the Most Influential EDM Artist of the 2010 Decade, Redditors came to the conclusion that “[Avicii] is a winner in all of our hearts,” and that “his legacy stays forever”.

A comment also suggested that the results were expected, as “Marshmello is better known in America and currently very popular“. The latter is certainly true. His single ‘Happierwith Bastille was also nominated at the AMAs for Collaboration of the Year. Music aside, the DJ has also ventured into a whole range of merchandise, the latest of which include Stuffed Puffs. Marshmello had attended the opening ceremony for the brand’s new factory just last week.

Avicii’s Legacy

Beyond the world of awards, there are other ways to remember and celebrate the much loved Avicii. With December just around the corner, it will soon be time for the long-awaited tribute concert. The star-studded show will take place on December 5 in Stockholm, and bring to the stage the likes of David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Kygo, Laidback Luke and Nicky Romero, among many other live performances.
