There is no question about how much Spotify is investing into Podcasts. The platform has recently created a “Podcast for Artists” tool, and previously invested more than $300 million into Podcasts. Spotify seems to have their eyes set on the prize. However, with all these changes, Spotify has a new one for you. Fresh out of the Spotify News Room: you can now add Podcasts to playlists and create Podcast playlists.
In fact, with over 3 billion user generated playlists, this update comes at a critical moment for the Podcast industry – an industry which Spotify continues to be the leader of. Furthermore, combining music and podcasts is a first for Spotify, and holds true to the original vision of Audio First. From the blog post announcing the news:
“With this recently released, frequently requested functionality, users can build playlists of podcasts. They can even add podcasts to existing playlists for a mixed-media experience. Users can also set up a playlist of multiple podcasts in a row—perfect for a long drive or maybe a run—or integrate their favorite songs with news, comedy, or sports podcasts.”

- Simply navigate to a podcast episode you love.
- Tap the three dots to the right of the track or episode.
- Tap “Add to playlist.”
- Select a playlist you’ve already created you like to add it to.
- Or, tap to create a new playlist from scratch.
- Play around with interspersing podcast episodes with music tracks to curate hand-picked listening sessions.
- Share with your friends or make your playlists public—others are sure to love them too!
Spotify Focusing on Podcasts
On top of the $500 million investment, Spotify acquired 2 major podcast companies in February: Anchor and Gimlet Media. Apple is currently hosting close to 500,000 podcasts, while Spotify has continued to grow at a quick rate since the start of the year. Signing acts such as Barack and Michelle Obama, Spotify is really pumping out content into the podcast world. This exciting new update is only going to help.
