Ultra Music Festival’s Director of Marketing Resigns

Ultra Music Festival faces some changes in the new year, and we aren’t just talking about its location.

Albert Berdellans, better known to some as EDMsnob, resigned as the three-day electronic dance event’s director of marketing and communications. Reportedly he will be replaced by Bobby Bassett, who held the position for many years before Albert stepped into the role.

“I’m very proud of the work that has been done by an incredible team over the last several years,” Berdellans wrote in a Facebook post, “and I’m very thankful for the opportunities I’ve had to see the world, build life-changing experiences, and see the incredible unity that these festivals can bring to millions of people worldwide.”

Berdellans called his decision to leave the Miami-based festival “difficult.” But he also said he’d be using the time off to care for his wife and continue working as a marketing consultant.

The University of Florida graduate’s connections to the electronic music scene pre-dates his affiliation with Ultra Music Festival.

He once was editor-in-chief for EDM.com. He also held the position of chief marketing officer for the EDM Network.

Blogging under the handle, “EDMsnob,” Berdellans often found himself at the center of controversy.

He said in a 2012 Reddit AMA that he was the target of constant lawsuits for his posts at the now-defunct EDMSnob.com; even earning a f**k you from Canadian DJ and producer deadmau5. One such write-up alleged that DJ Mag took secret payments from artists in exchange for featured articles on them. Berdellans’ post prompted a response from the British publication that included a referral to the police.

“I’ll continue to write and be active on social media,” Berdellans said in his resignation announcement.

Ultra named Berdellans its marketing and communications director in spring 2019. He previously served as the festival’s new media manager and market analyst.

Ultra Music Festival returns to Miami’s Bayfront Park, March 20 – 22, 2020. General admission tickets, starting at $399.95, are on sale now at UltraMusicFestival.com.
