Chet Porter Releases Powerful New Track

“For some, time passes slowly. An hour can seem like an eternity. For others, there’s never enough.”

Natalie Babbitt

This has been a quote I’ve saved in my Notes for years now. I’ve hung onto it to remind me of the natural progression of our lives and emotions through this crazy thing called life. Many of you have possibly also heard this quote before and I will elaborate on why I’ve brought this up. On September 19th, Chet Porter tweeted some amazing news. After 3 years, he is finally ready to release new music. The way that he expressed this news hit a little bit differently than most artist’s announcements. It felt vulnerable. It felt real and sincere.

This news felt relieving for many.

Back in December of 2018, while on tour with San Holo, Chet put out a surprise statement. He explainined to the electronic music world that he needed a break, and was in the process of seeking support for his mental health. Of course, fans and artists alike sent positive vibes to him and completely understood his decision.

Chet Porter took the time he needed for himself, and rightfully so. Chet remained active on social media during his break. However, he remained quiet about what he was doing behind the scenes.

‘The Longest Day Ever’

And at midnight on Thursday, ‘The Longest Day Ever’ came out on all streaming platforms. And boy, it’s easy to feel the emotions within the indie lyrics, synths, and delicately played instruments. I tweeted Chet Porter to find out more after feeling his passion and vulnerability in the track. He responded back to me, saying:

“the songs about not caring about anything, but in like a bad unhealthy way and every day just feels the same because of it. the title is just like this day is so fucking long and boring and pointless i wish it would just end already”.

I also asked him about the lyrics:

As you listen to the song, I encourage you to carefully read the lyrics. Feel it.

Many, including myself, have battled with mental health for short time periods or years on end. I applaud those who face this part of life (and even those who feel calm about this part of their lives).

If you’ve made it this far, I thank you for reading. I feel very strongly about the message behind this song. I hope that you’ve had a chance to explore it as well, and think about what it means to you.

Billboard recently sat with the artist and talked more about his journey. If you have a moment, it’s worth a read.

Now, back to the quote above. It is simple yet powerful. At any moment, you may feel on top of the world. And, at some point, you must come down from the top of the wave of life. It’s important to remember that the next wave will approach sometime soon and to keep treading as much as you can. Time may standstill. The wave may feel like it’s never passing. But despite this, there are moments on the way that give you an infinite feeling. What an absolute blessing it would be to be able to freeze and soak it all in.

In Conclusion

Life can be difficult. It’s not going to be perfect. It may tear you down. However, the sun still finds a way to shine. There is love all around. There is art to be explored and felt. More. If it ever becomes too much, there is ALWAYS going be someone there to help you through it all. I promise you. My social media inboxes are open to all. Again, thank you for reading. I really appreciate it. <3
