Snakebite Recovery Underway for Mike Posner

The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that around 8,000 people are bitten by poisonous snakes each year. That’s roughly 0.0024% of the U.S. population. Therefore, it’s pretty safe to say that a snakebite isn’t something you should be too worried about. Nevertheless, after posting a video to his Instagram account Wednesday, Mike Posner joined that small group of unlucky people. Just days later, his road to recovery is already underway.

The video shows him crossing the Kansas-Colorado border at County Road N and Road 39 near Holly, CO. For those not familiar with Colorado, that’s way out in the middle of nowhere. Certainly, it’s miles from any hospital carrying supplies of snakebite anti-venom. Thankfully, however, he’s been able to receive treatment in time. After receiving an air ambulance to an area hospital, though, the powerful venom still likely leaves Posner unable to walk for weeks. Truly, that’s an ironic turn for a man who’s 16 weeks into The Walk Across America.

Already Back on His Feet

Despite the adversity, Mike seems to be in good spirits. Indeed, surviving a snakebite and escaping death could be responsible for that. He’s also received an outpouring of support from major players like Diplo, Benny Benassi, Joe Jonas and hundreds more.

At any rate, he’s wasting no time getting back on his feet. Furthermore, he’s continuing to chronicle his journey on Instagram posting this video early Saturday morning.

Going forward, there’s no question that this snakebite will be the toughest test for Mike on his journey across the country. Specifically, getting back into shape to complete his trip will be daunting. In the caption to his video Saturday he said this:

“I’m on my way back. Gonna rebuild with patience and equanimity.

It sounds like he has the right attitude for the job. Like everyone else, we’ll be sending out good vibes and wishing for his speedy recovery. Be sure to follow Mike on his Instagram as he continues to share his story with the world.
