Eventbrite Steps In After Abrupt Festival Cancellation

Roxodus Music Festival ticket holders were ready to spend their next weekend with the likes of Aerosmith, Lynard Skynyrd and Nickelback. However, after an abrupt cancellation of the entire festival, ticketing website Eventbrite is issuing refunds to fans.

The festival set for July 11th – 14th in Ontario, Canada issued a statement on July 3rd canceling the event due to “tremendous rainy weather”. The festival website now only shows the message released by the Roxodus Team.

What makes the refunds of this festival so interesting is that they aren’t coming from the festival. Eventbrite is issuing the refunds themselves. Eventbrite executives have failed to contact Roxodus event organizers.

While the ticketing website continues to pursue the refunds from the festival creators, Eventbrite is wasting no time returning money.

“We believe attendees deserve to get their money back now, so we have set up an Eventbrite-funded Fan Relief Program to make all Roxodus ticket holders whole.” Eventbrite said in a statement.

In most cases, weather is a more than adequate reason for the cancellation of an event. But the story of Roxodus sits on unstable ground, so to speak.

Sources reached out to Billboard to say the weather has been fairly dry in Ontario. Others say the Edenvale Airport was not built for a music festival. The unstable ground would’ve made it dangerous to build a stage.

Some have speculated that the production company MF Live ran out of money from paying acts up-front and low ticket sales.

While Roxodus ticket holders wait to hear more from the event organizers themselves others have stepped in. Worse yet the attendees loaded money onto festival wristbands that they need to get back also. The festival’s wristband retailer Intellitix is also issuing refunds. Intellitix is responsible for the wristbands/cashless payments at Tomorrowland and Coachella.
