New York’s Highline Ballroom Will Be Forced To Close Next Month After Losing Lease

New York’s Highline Ballroom Will See Its Final Days After Losing Lease

Another New York venue bites the dust next month and joins the departure of Cielo and Output; Highline Ballroom. The surprising news comes after word got out that the building would not be renewing the lease for the 700-capacity room, which was a staple in the Chelsea community long known as a concert venue.

The owner of the venue Steven Bensusan stated:
“Unfortunately after 12 years our landlord has decided not to renew Highline Ballroom’s lease. For over a year we were led to believe that a renewal was imminent, however it is now clear that the landlord has other plans for the building.”

But not all is lost, Bensunan went on to say there will be a new location for the venue.
“We plan on reopening Highline Ballroom at a new location in the Chelsea/Meatpacking District and are currently looking at options,” he said. “We hope to be able to announce our plans soon.”

As more popular nightlife venues close down, we can’t help but notice a disturbing trend. For New York City, the nightlife owners must do what’s necessary to keep their venues open. Good thing Webster Hall is coming back.
