“Hole-Punch” Replace Notches for Samsung Smartphones

The world of cell phones is one that changes rapidly. Sometimes for good and sometimes…not. There has been a lot of talk in the last few months about what Samsung is going to be giving us. The foldable ‘Infinity Flex’, the potential 5G ‘Beyond X’ and now the ‘Galaxy A8s’. The main selling point of this new phone is the camera.

It’s what is called a “hole-punch”. A tiny circle cut out of the display. This is the alternative to the notch that current phones have. You know that black part above and below the actual screen? That’s going away. At least as much as physically possible. Our screens are going to be even more screen.

The camera is going to be in the upper left corner, rather than the middle as they have been for years. It will be an interesting change, but one that shouldn’t impact selfie-takers too much. The camera itself has pretty impressive specs. Boasting 24 megapixels for the front-facing camera. For comparison, the Samsung Note9, which is the newest phone from them has an 8-megapixel camera.

It is important to note that Samsung is not the first company to unveil a design like this. Like the foldable display, they were beaten by a smaller company. In this case, Huawei with their ‘Nova 4’ and with their ‘Honor View20’. Though they may have been before Samsung, it will likely be difficult for them to outsell such a known and popular brand.

There’s no release date as of yet for the Galaxy A8s. There is also no mention of the price tag for such a phone, but we can expect it to be at least $1000.
