Google’s Top Trends For 2018

At the end of every year, Google releases the top search trends for the previous 12 months. 2017 saw items such as “Hurricane Irma”, “Iphone 8″, “Iphone X”, “Matt Lauer”, and “Meghan Markle” top the list. If you look back at last years headlines, it is easy to see that these topics were part of what most people consider big news.

This year, the most searched items are a bit different, as they reflect the happenings of 2018. Topping the list for overall searches was the “World Cup“, which was held in Russia this year. The second most searched term globally was “Avicii“, further cementing the legacy he left behind. The third most searched item was “Mac Miller”, who was an American rapper, and Hip-Hop artist who passed away.

In the world of EDM, Swedish House Mafia was the most searched for electronic music artist. Rounding out the top 5 were David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Fatboy Slim, Benny Benassi, Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, Laidback Luke, Steve Angello, and Marshmello.
