RÜFÜS DU SOL
When you think of live electronic acts, few have managed to do what RÜFÜS DU SOL have accomplished, much less in such a short span of time. The Australian trio consisting of Tyrone Lindqvist, Jon George, and James Hunt have gone from releasing their debut RÜFÜS EP in 2010 to gaining mainstream success with their breakout album Bloom in 2015. Just recently, 2018 has seen them release their biggest piece of work to date through their Solace album. Halloween night saw them take the stage in none other than sunny San Diego as part of their Solace tour. With support from Cassian & Icarus, this event was the perfect way to spend Halloween night.

If you’ve had a chance to check out Icarus, you’d know that their EP ‘In The Dark‘ contains more than enough tracks to set the perfect vibe for Rüfus, and this is exactly what they did. When you pair together both Icarus and Cassian, the vibe is just as you would expect. For over two hours, the Valley View Casino Center was a melting pot of raw energy, and emotion. This was all in the leadup to the headlining act that was RÜFÜS DU SOL.
As the production crew prepared the stage, I quickly made my way to find the best seat in the house. With a soldout show and a plethora of costumed music goers, this was not the easiest thing to do. As I swam through the sea of people, I found my spot just as RÜFÜS DU SOL took the stage. A moment later they started their set, and the crowd went wild.

I couldn’t name you every single song they played, but a moment that vividly comes to mind is when they dropped ‘Like An Animal’. Being one of their bigger songs, I was surprised that they would include this in their opening set, but it worked, and I, along with the crowd couldn’t be more excited.
As the night progressed, I got a true idea of what the guys behind Rüfus are really about. There were moments where I was feeling as if I was somewhere in a basement listening to some Deep House waiting for the tension to build. Next thing I knew there were vibrant synths and heart-pounding chords all over the place. When they brought it all together all with the distinct vocals of their singer Tyrone Lindqvist, I couldn’t help but catch the vibe and dance the night away.
The trio pretended to end the night with their smash hits Underwater, and Innerbloom, and did a pretty good job of it too. After playing the tunes, there was a rather long moment where they left the stage and made it seem as if they would not be back. To the crowds’ relief, they did return and actually took the time to thank everyone for coming out. They also stated that this was their first arena show. This made the experience all the much better knowing I was present for something of such magnitude.
Closing
They closed the show with the lead single off their new album ‘Solace’, titled No Place. With this being this being a part of the Solace Tour we couldn’t have wished for a better ending. If you haven’t had a chance to check out their new album ‘Solace‘, we highly recommend you do. The album is already being regarded as one of the best of the year, and after seeing it all live, I couldn’t agree more.
