Burning Man‘s 2018 edition is quickly approaching. As a special treat, a stunning new attraction has been reported, and trust us – this one truly reflects the world’s beauty at its finest! On August 26 to September 3, 2018, attendees will have the opportunity to see a 100-foot-tall disco ball, christened The Orb.

This captivating mirrored ball has been constructed by a team of architects and artists; leading this project are the notable Jakob Lange and Danes Bjarke.

“The ORB is a mirror for earth lovers – reflecting the passing daytime, evolving life and other art works beneath it – A new planet to sci-fi fans, a wayfinder for travellers or just a huge disco ball to those who love a good party,” says the project’s leaders.

To give you an idea about its size, it has a diameter of practically 100 feet and will be supported by a 105-foot-long inclined steel mast.

“Visible from most of The Playa, it will help Burners navigate the desert and find way. At night, the ORB will blend entirely into its surroundings and become part of the desert. The ORB is a tribute to mother earth and human expression – designed to easily inflate and deflate, leaving no trace on the Playa.”

The massive undertaking crowdfunded via Indiegogo will cost approximately $50,000 to complete and orchestrate the remainder of the project. Once finished, the Orb will be showcased in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada.

This year’s event will be that much more magical centered around an I, Robot theme. The idea will be focused around a large collection of short science fiction tales by Isaac Asimov. In addition, this may be a difficult year, for some, as this will mark the first festival since the event’s founder Larry Havey‘s passing.

With numerous special elements continuing to be added to the mix, like the Flower Tower, future attendees have begun to count down in anticipation for the beloved event.
