Fatum – Forward EP
The Fatum Forward EP hits shelves this week, and fans are excited for new music from the quartet. Their Forward EP is a five-track masterpiece with a wide variety of sounds. It features some previous releases along with two brand new tracks. From start to finish, the growth of the Grammy-nominated group shows through the quality of their sound. Their stock is pointing straight up as they continue to receive tons of airplay from Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, and many others. They just appeared on ASOT 870 for a one hour mix that you can catch here.
There is nothing formulaic about these five tracks – they each have their own distinct personality. Dance-floor destroyers ‘Violet‘ and ‘Mowgli‘ have been out for months, and made lasting appearances at Ultra Music Festival. ‘Violet’ offers a dark, scratchy drop with some beautiful interlude work. ‘Mowgli’ utilizes strong synth work and uptempo drums to create a cascading sense of urgency. ‘Comet,’ released a few short weeks ago, is a cosmic track showcasing more progressive harmonies.
New to the listeners’ ears are ‘Spiral‘ and the only vocal track ‘Only Hope.’ ‘Spiral’ hits hard with some heavy Anjunabeats influence. The slow, meaningful build-up leads to a very uplifting crescendo, massive and powerful. The concluding song is the darker, pensive vocal track ‘Only Hope.’ It showcases the soulful voice of Angel Taylor, who has appeared on songs with Arty, Tritonal, AvB, and many big acts. This track carries shades of the chillwave/electropop genre, and is quite catchy upon first listen.
In all, the Fatum Forward EP offers a little something for everyone. It is an album that can be replayed over and over, always finding something new to please the ears. They revealed that they will have a packed touring schedule in 2019, so be sure to catch them live. Give the full EP a listen down below.
