Does Mixmag’s Top 50 Dance Tracks Still Hold Up?

Back in 2013, Mixmag released what they believed was the top 50 dance tracks of all time. The list is filled with songs spanning across decades of dance music so every track has to be timeless and unforgettable. For example, Justice’s ‘Phantom Pt. II’ came in at #38 and Avicii’s ‘Levels’ came in at #16. This says a lot about the quality of the music being ranked. The list is long, so I’m going to stick to the top five.

5. Faithless ‘Insomnia’ [Cheeky], 1995

4. Underworld ‘Born Slippy’ [Junior Boys Own], 1995

3. The Prodigy ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ [XL], 1997

2. Tiesto ‘Adagio For Strings’ [Independance], 2004

1. Daft Punk ‘One More Time’ [2000 / Virgin]

While everyone may not agree with the entire list, it’s only fitting that the Iconic French Duo is responsible for the greatest dance track of all time. ‘One More Time’ is a song that is instantly recognizable whenever it is played. The question is, does this list still hold up today? What would change about the list since it was released? I believe that, for the most part, the songs still deserve the spot they were given in the list while some should be moved around or replaced by new music. As time goes on, there will be more timeless hits to add to the list.
