Female Only Festival Receives the Funding it Needs to Proceed

Sexual assault is an ongoing issue that affects women all over the world. Women in Sweden decided to take a stand, and make their dreams of an “all women festival” a reality.  A crowdfunding campaign successfully raised £47,000 for the event, from about 3,300 people. Statement Festival will be making its debut, summer of 2018.

Statement Festival will prohibit men, and is being organized by a Swedish comedian named Emma Knyckare. Knyckare is extremely passionate about the festival and went along to Tweet, “What do you think about putting together a really cool festival where only non-men are welcome that we’ll run until ALL men have learned how to behave themselves?”.

The necessity for an event of Statement Festivals nature came about following a strew of 4 rapes and over 20 sexual assaults that took place at Swedish music festival Bråvalla. Due to the events that took place at Bråvalla, it will not be returning next year. Women in Sweden hope that Statement Festival will be a platform for females to be able to enjoy themselves in a safe environment. Hopefully attendees of events everywhere learn from this cause and come together to make partying feel safe again. Learn more about Statement Festival and how you can help, here.
