Usually when a major news event happens happens, you’ll see a rush of DJs reacting on Twitter or performing tributes/fundraisers of some kind. Despite Hurricane Harvey‘s devastating impact on Texas, the dance music community has been relatively quiet when you compare their reactions to other more inflammatory news items. However, the polarizing Marshmello is making a big and positive statement on behalf of the dance music community to the people of Texas.

Marshmello took to Instagram to announce that he will be donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross to help in the Hurricane Harvey relief effort. He is making this donation on behalf of himself and also his “mellogang” movement, spurred on by the horrific images of destruction from across Texas. Mello is also encouraging his fans to do the same and help in the recovery effort. Love him or hate him, you can’t knock his response to this natural disaster.
