Rihanna Plays Off “Airport Reggae” Comment in Response to Diplo

Rihanna has responded with a mild response to a story Diplo told about a time he tried collaborating with her. Earlier this week, Diplo sat down with GQ Style and recalled a rather embarrassing story in which Rihanna shut him down when he played her some tracks. As you may have heard, his attempt turned out to be… unsuccessful in a major way. Here’s a snippet from Diplo’s interview:

“I played her ‘Lean On.’ She was like, I don’t do house music. I face-palmed so hard on that one. Another time I had a session with her, and Future was also invited. The Weeknd was there. Metro Boomin was there before anybody knew who he was. I was so contact high. Future played her, like, 700 songs. It was four in the morning. Finally, I was like, Yo, G, I’m leaving unless you let me play her a song. So I played her a song. And she was like, This sounds like a reggae song at an airport. [laughs] I was like, I’m gonna go kill myself.’”

It doesn’t seem like Diplo took it too personally. But it is interesting that Ri Ri said she “doesn’t do house music”. Maybe someone should play her ‘We Found Love’ or ‘This Is What You Came For’ by Calvin Harris. Regardless, Rihanna seemed to down play her “reggae song at an airport” comment with an Instagram post. The caption on the post merely said, “#DutyFree My bad @diplo”.

Hopefully, both artists can put this passed them and get back in the studio together. That is if Rihanna ever wants to get back into house music or be featured in a reggae song.

#DutyFree 😂😂😂 My bad @diplo
