SPOILER: Tomorrowland 2017 Will Replace Beloved Opera Stage

Out with the old and in with the new. Even if the old is one of dance music’s most iconic live stages. Tomorrowland first debuted the Opera Stage in 2014 and it has soldiered on every year since then, offering one of the most unique stage environments out there. It looks like a market square in a medieval village with an ornate stage up front.

Now as Tomorrowland 2017 begins the build out for the Amicorum Spectaculum, we see a new structure going up where Opera normally stood. At this point the best speculation is that it will be the so-called Freedom Stage, hosted by Budweiser. The Opera Stage was an outdoor large stage, but it appears that it will be replaced by a long roof structure that is a megastructure of sorts. These days megastructures are only found at Ultra, Coachella, and Creamfields and they provide one of the most incredible festival experiences on earth. While the Opera Stage had a beautiful backdrop with the ferris wheel behind it, there is a chance the ferris wheel may be relocated to become part of this year’s mainstage. The best we can do to predict the style is to look at the clues in this year’s trailer.

Better yet, a megastructure styled stage seems perfect for A State of Trance along with Eric Prydz and Deadmau5 that are set the grace the festival this year. Since it’s Tomorrowland, the decorations will surely be ornate, and we’ll keep you updated as the build out continues.
