President Obama has signed the Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act of 2016, banning the use of software to purchase tickets online. This new legislation seeks to discourage ticket scalpers from buying tickets at face value and reselling them at a higher price.

The law prohibits any person or company from using a bot or software to make unfair ticket purchases, such as buying more tickets than the maximum number allowed. It also incriminates any person reselling tickets that were purchased by a bot, holding all parties involved in the process liable. In a time when it is commonplace for concerts and festivals to sell out within minutes of tickets becoming available sale, this law brings hope to music-lovers that get stuck overpaying for scalped tickets.
