M83 Announces New LP ‘Junk’ And First Single “Do It, Try It”

Anthony Gonzalez, otherwise known as M83, will finally release a follow-up to his almost 5 year old Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming LP when Junk hits stores on April 8 through Mute Records. “Do It, Try It” acts as the first single and first major release since his composition of the soundtrack for sci-fi film Oblivion. In a press release, Gonzalez describes how he approached the new LP with a dramatic realization over how people consume music.

Anything we create today is going to end up being space junk at one point anyway, and I find it really fascinating and scary at the same time – beautiful too in a way. I have this image of pieces of humanity floating in space, lost forever. It also means that nowadays everything goes so fast and everybody is kind of throwing away art in a certain manner. People will listen to an album for instance and just pick a track they like to put on a playlist. They’re not going to take the time to listen to an album anymore because they have to jump on the next thing.

Beck and Susanne Sundfør are set to guest on the album while keyboardist and backup vocalist Morgan Kibby will not since her departure from the band just before the recording sessions. However, Gonzalez is holding auditions in the form of video submissions for someone to play the keyboard and sing during his upcoming tour via official site. The tracklist and tour dates in support of Junk are listed below; tickets are now available.
