Powerhouse entertainment company Live Nation is in the final stages to purchase majority ownership in Governors Ball producers Founders Entertainment. It’s starting to look like another battle between big time entertainment companies over the northeast festival scene and in particular New York City. AEG Live is bringing Panorama to Randall’s Island on July 22nd through the 24th. This means that for the first time since the debut of Governor’s Ball six years ago, The Big Apple will have two multi-genre music festivals at Randall’s Island in the same year.
Governors Ball had its best year in 2015 with over 150,000 attendees. This year, even with the addition of Panorama, the festival is still selling at a high rate with the help of headliners Kanye West, The Strokes and The Killers. This looks like a partnership that should bring Governors Ball to new heights. The financing of Live Nation and the indie music knowledge of Founders seems to be a great match for the future success for Governors Ball, even with the debut of Panorama later in the summer.
