Over the past weekend, Australia hosted one of its biggest music festivals in Stereosonic. Unfortunately tragedy struck, as a 25-year-old woman was taken from the Sydney Olympic Park venue and transported to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead. According to Assistant Commissioner Frank Mennilli, a drug overdose is believed to be the cause of death. Another 22-year-old woman is in critical condition at a nearby hospital after being put into a medically induced coma.

In all it wasn’t a pretty sight for the festival that saw 70 people charged with drug offenses and 23 more given cautions for the possession of Cannabis. According to ABC, “Police said the number of arrests was alarming and that they were disappointed with the behaviour of many of the 50,000 people who were at the event at Sydney Olympic Park.”

With big named DJs including Armin Van Buuren, Diplo, and Oliver Heldens present, this Australian festival is set to travel to Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane in the coming weeks. We should expect to see tightened security after a discouraging first weekend.
