Yahoo!’s hunt for the best electronic music DJ is set to make its debut in early 2016. Ultimate DJ will be the company’s main project for next year, as they announced that The Pursuit, a previously announced sitcom, will be scratched. The competition will be produced by Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment in partnership with Yahoo! and Ultra Music. For Cowell’s company, Ultimate DJ follows up massive projects like American Idol, America’s Got Talent and X Factor. Hamish Hamilton is set to be the director after working on the Academy Awards and Beyonce’s 2013 Super Bowl half-time show.

Ultimate DJ was first announced in April to mostly negative reactions from the dance music community. Interestingly, the voting will take place via Tumblr, so no more phone-calls. The winning DJ will get a Sony/Ultra recording contract, a healing spot at a music festival and of course, a life-changing experience. The details related to the casting and the judges are still unknown, but outlets have reported that industry heavyweights such as Steve Aoki, NERVO and Giorgio Moroder have been contacted.
