Ibiza Government Introduces New Mandatory Closing Time For 2016 Season

In response to multiple clubs violating previously-in-effect closing times during the 2015 party season, Ibiza’s government has decided to institute a new, island-wide closing time to go into effect next summer. For example, last year, Amnesia, one of the island’s most recognizable venues, violated its license 15 different times, and hosted a party that ended at 1PM – seven hours later than allowed. In order to cut down on these violations, the president of Ibiza’s Island Council, as well as the island’s five mayors met last week and determined that 6:30 AM will be the mandatory closing time for all nightclubs. Authorities also promise to dish out harsher punishments for venues found in violation of the new law. The new closing time will impact some of Ibiza’s most popular venues, including Pacha, Amnesia, and Space. The new closing time also applies to “cafés conciertos” (smaller music-based bars and beach clubs), that will now close at 5 AM and midnight, respectively.
