SIZE Records boss Steve Angello and Nashville producer R.J. Cutler’s electronic music-themed TV show ‘The Drop‘ has been picked up by CW & CBS Studios. ‘The Drop‘ will be set in the non-stop party city of Miami, Florida, where electronic dance music reigns supreme. The show focuses on a DJ who is going through a rough patch in his career before being inspired by, According to Deadline, “a gifted protégé who is female and African-American, both rarities in the EDM world”. R.J. Cutler will serve as the show’s director, while former Swedish House Mafia member Angello will be the executive music producer.
The announcement of this new series comes almost immediately after the release of ‘We Are Your Friends‘. The film, which stars Zac Efron, features a similar plot, as it is centred around a young DJ trying to make it in the world of electronic music. Unfortunately, the movie bombed and ended up having one of the worst opening weekends in box office history. Hopefully, ‘The Drop’ doesn’t follow suit, as it would be nice to see dance music take the silver screen by storm.
