With all the hoopla around the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll, it’s easy to forget about The DJ Awards (Electronic Music Awards). Celebrating 18 years in existence this September, the Ibiza-based nonprofit group has announced its 2015 categories and nominees. Unlike the free-for all-DJ Mag popularity contest, this is a highly curated event, with nominations determined “with the guidance of a panel of prominent key names within the industry”. More like the Grammys, but with a touch of populism in that you can actually vote for your favorite acts instead of relying on a shadowy cabal of entertainment insiders.
With ten total categories, including “Deep House,” “Electronica,” “Tech House,” and the newly consolidated classes of “Electro/Progressive House” and “Bass,” there’s a little something for everybody. Previous winners include Frankie Knuckles, Hardwell, Tiësto, Richie Hawtin, and Patrick Topping. Below is a full list of the nominees.
