Diplo’s Major Lazer Animated Series Will Air This Month on FXX

Major Lazer Cartoon

After months of waiting, Diplo’s Major Lazer cartoon finally has a date for its premiere. The animated series has been a long time coming, with a sneak peek having been previewed back in October. Up until now, however, the show lacked a premiere date. Set to debut at midnight on April 16, Major Lazer will now become a part of FXX’s new Animation Domination lineup.

The show follows a simple premise: a superhero rightly named Major Lazer who fights crime in a futuristic dystopian Jamaica. The show combines the visual elements we’ve become familiar with, to the dancehall/electronic/hip-hip music and Jamaican culture. The result? Well, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, the voice behind Major Lazer, says it best, “It’s like being high.”

The show also features a star studded guest lineup that includes Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons, Mad Decent’s own Riff Raff, Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, Charli XCX, and comedians Andy Samberg and Aziz Ansari. With nearly five years of work being put into the show, a star-studded cast, and a sure-to-be fire soundtrack, Major Lazer is looking to be a show you certainly won’t want to miss. Make sure to save the date and catch the premiere of Major Lazer on FXX. Check out an in-depth look at the making of the show below.
