Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons – Vermillion
Making it as Pete Tong’s ‘Essential New Tune’ last week, Crosstown Rebels label boss Damian Lazarus and The Ancient Moons‘ track “Vermillion” is truly a deep house gem. Being the lead single from their new album Message from the Other Side, it captures the essence of the experiences that Lazarus has had while on his global trotting adventures; with those magical moments being the inspiration for the album.
Rife with tribal spirit, “Vermillion” is the first of two showings on the new album from LA singer-songwriter and guitarist Moses Sumney and is very evident of the impact and influence he has had on the development on this track. Hearing this for the first time, it’s perfectly suited for a day party at BPM or celebrating another sunrise on the playa at Burning Man; where Lazarus frequently plays.
“There is nothing that compares to DJing under the stars,” Lazarus explains. “In the night air or being responsible for soundtracking the rising of the sun and I wanted to create an album that reflects these beautiful moments.”
The album, which was co-produced by Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford, is a culmination of vocalist, collaborators and artists with varying gifts from across the globe.
