Tragedy Strikes Echostage DC as Man Falls From Balcony During New Year Show

Tragedy Strikes Echostage DC After Man Falls From Balcony

On January 1st, Washington D.C.’s Echostage hosted Mega DC, a New Years Day event with Flux Pavilion, Yellow Claw, Slander and Snails. While the night started off as a celebration of the new year, it abruptly turned to tragedy right around 12:45 in the morning. Towards the end of Yellow Claw’s set, a man fell off the balcony at Echostage, seriously injuring himself. Rumors have been swirling on social media, and there have been no official reports yet about the incident. The man’s condition is unknown, and we can only hope that he is okay and makes a full recovery. It is also unclear if the man jumped or fell from the balcony, as there are conflicting comments all over social media. There was even mention of the man being tased by security after he fell, although there has been no confirmation of these claims.

The event was shut down after the incident, and confusion spread amongst those in attendance. Police assisted in blocking off the area and escorting people out of the venue. A gruesome picture of the man was posted on Instagram, which highlights the severity of his injuries. We can only hope he makes a complete recovery*, and we send prayers to him and his friends and family. Details are scarce at the moment, however, that isn’t important.

[UPDATE]*: A post on LXVXLS by John Wallace, a friend of the victim (Cody T.), has gone into more depth about the situation and reveals a grim ending. Cody fell off the balcony after trying to catch an ice bucket that he had throw in celebration; his sincere attempt to prevent harm to the people below lead to his fall, and according to Wallace, Cody was pronounced dead hours later.

A fundraiser, #DoItForCody, has been set up to help support Cody’s family. You can donate here. Our sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.
