Thomas Wesley Pentz, aka Diplo, has established himself in the music industry in many different forms. He is a producer, a DJ, a record company owner, co-creator of Major Lazer and Jack U, and a songwriter. Case and point: he has authority to determine which songs have potential and which songs, do not. With that in mind, Diplo has created a SoundCloud account titled “diplo approved,” where he promises to repost “all the best music in the world that isn’t mine.” At the moment, there are already a handful of songs that he’s reposted, the first being Genesis’ remix of Schoolboy Q featuring Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Collard Greens’, a track that was released five months ago.

This is a phenomenal idea and his motive is simple: “new music suggested and approved by Diplo.” From somebody who has helped launch a number of careers through Mad Decent, such as Dillon Francis, DJ Snake, Zeds Dead and Flosstradamus, the man should have a SC account to help all aspiring producers expand our horizons. On top of all the touring and producing, Diplo hosts a late night show on BBC Radio 1 titled, ‘Diplo and Friends,’ where he showcases new music from other producers. Even though we all know which genres he favors, and his first repost falls under his usual sound, it’ll be interesting to see which tunes he chooses to spotlight. Bravo Dippy, we’d love to see other artists do the same with their following as well.
