Ladies and gentlemen, the spring break season is upon us and festivals are being announced left and right. Coachella, Noise Pop, South by Southwest, Future Music Fest Asia, EDC Mexico, and of course the mega-fest that will be Ultra Music Fest Miami are all right around the corner. These all promise to be amazing experiences and we implore you to go to as many as you can, but there’s a new party on the rise and it’s giving the EDM fest experience a new spin: the Buku Music & Art Project.
The project was founded in 2012 by Winter Circle Productions, a New Orleans based promotion group on a mission to give people a unique festival experience. Located just a short walk away from the historic French Quarter in the bustling Warehouse District, Buku gives its attendees something to look forward to no matter where you are. The Buku experience is one that bursting with life, color, creativity, and an incredible variety in the lineup and attendees.
Part of what gives this festival such an incredible atmosphere is the scenery each stage is surrounded by. “The Power Plant” is an outdoor stage between a railroad and the Mississippi River, with the abandonded Market Street Powerplant in the backdrop.”The Float Den” is in a Mardi Gras float factory with a close quarters intimate vibe. Want to go to a festival and feel like your at a standard concert? Hit up “The Ballroom”, a concert hall with incredible lighting and art decor. When you’re done with these massive parties, try and make it over to the limited capacity underground dance party at “The Back Alley” with the Crescent City Connection bridge and the Mississippi river in sight. Of course, there is a special treat for those who pay for the VIP access in the form of the S.S. Buku: a New Orleans style riverboat with 3 levels and a view of the Power Plant stage.
Every stage location at Buku is designed to immerse attendees in the New Orleans lifestyle and create a vibe unlike any other. To support each location, and the surrounding New Orleans scenery, Winter Cirlce Productions set up the most diverse musical line up out there. The full lineup was announced January 29th, and it is stacked with genres for everybody. Buku is one of very few places where you can go hear from the likes of the Flaming Lips, Kaskade, and Nas in one place. The genre variation is unreal. Deep house from Dusky, big room from Zedd, hip hop from School Boy Q and so much more. Outside of the music artists, Buku will feature local, national, and international artists to put together pieces for the festival, some of which will be interactive. Just thinking about the food, the New Orleans air, the dancing, and the people you can meet is getting me all excited.
