Event Preview: Above & Beyond – 2.15.2013 (Philadelphia, PA)

Might as well begin calling it Philadelphia, Trance-ylvania. Because, simply, Philly is establishing itself as a premier– dare I say THE premier?– hotbed of trance music in a growing US market. I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: say trance is dead or dying all you want, but deny you cannot that Philadelphia is revitalizing its own trance scene wholeheartedly. Doubt it? Just ask trance’s rising stars, W&W, or its legends, such as Kyau & Albert or Dash Berlin, or those successful trance artists who have always bonded with the city, such as Tom Colontonio. If those names  cannot convince you of the city’s unparalleled cultivation of trance music, then perhaps the next one, arguably the most influential trance musicians in the past decade, will. I introduce: Above & Beyond.

On February 15th, 2013– one night before the group’s New York City celebration of its release of its “Anjunabeats Volume 10” mixed-compilation CD– Above & Beyond will come to Philly’s SoundGarden Hall for what will be nothing less than a night of music-led magic. The London-based trio have nearly sold out this intimate-yet-exquisite venue, so be sure to waste no time in buying tickets for this show. Tickets can be purchased here ($35.00). Please note that this event is 21+.

In this time, we’ve seen such rapid growth of so many mass-appeal events and festivals that, although special in their own ways, lack the warmth and intimacy of small-venue shows like this one will surely invoke. And, on top of this trend, an East-Coast show such as this is so very rare for the ever-busy Above & Beyond. Hopefully by now I’ve made my case in support of this can’t-miss event.

Please do enjoy “Stealing Time”, a classic track from Above & Beyond’s first studio album, Tri-State. I look forward to seeing all of you who can make this show for some much-needed and greatly-anticipated Group Therapy.
