This Memorial Day weekend we pay homage to the ones who started it all in the birthplace of techno, Detroit, MI, USA. A special, raw form of techno called Detroit Techno is considered to be one of the first genres of electronic music. Although techno is not at the forefront of music press and promotion, it will always resonate in Detroit. To prove this, the mayor of Detroit has made an official proclamation that the week of May 21-27 be named Techno Week. Movement, formerly known as DEMF, (Detroit Electronic Music Festival) is Beatport’s #2 most anticipated festival for 2013 beating out a few small names such as Electric Zoo, Ultra Music Festival, and Tomorrowland! Both international techno legends and local artists take to the 5 stages during the 3 day festival delivering mind altering beats and endless dancing. Some familiar names on the lineup include Kevin Saunderson, Richie Hawtin, MOBY, Art Department, Stacey Pullen, John Digweed and many more.
