New Quarterly Report Shows Major Fall in Facebook Usage

Chances are, no matter what age you are, you watched Facebook take over the world over the past decade. Ever since Facebook went viral, Mark Zuckerberg and his team have not taken any breaks in their constant innovations to keep the program fresh for it’s users. However, their latest quarterly report presented something we have not seen very often from Facebook. Facebook stated that their overall usage has decreased by 50 million hours per day. In addition to this huge drop in usage, the growth of the program has been at it’s slowest since 2015.

Zuckerberg has claimed that this major fall is inevitable due to their constant changes and updates. Opposed to approaching it negatively, he claims that it can be beneficial in the long run. “In 2018, we’re focused on making sure Facebook isn’t just fun to use, but also good for people’s well-being and for society,” he commented when discussing his goals for this year. “We’re doing this by encouraging meaningful connections between people rather than passive consumption of content … By focusing on meaningful connections, our community and business will be stronger over the long term.”

Although Facebook may not have been the first ever social media platform, there is no question that they have been the most dominant over the years. Do you think this drop in usage is a sign for something more? Could we be witnessing the beginning of the fall of Facebook?
