Virtual Self Arrives With ‘Ghost Voices’

Virtual Self

Epic. Incredible. Deep. Progressive. Uplifting. All these words apply to the latest release from Virtual Self, aka Porter Robinson. This completely new project by the EDM wunderkind remained relatively low profile until today. Most of the current information spread through small leaked teasers, fan diligence, and a hard working EDMTunes staff. Until today. At 3:00 EST Porter posted a new video to Facebook that includes ‘Ghost Voices‘ the second track to be released under the Virtual Self project.

This track includes several distinct features of Porter Robinson’s sound. That being said, Virtual Self promises a stark divergence from the typical Porter sound. Seeming to draw from elements of his ‘Shelter‘ track with Madeon, ‘Ghost Voices’ inhabits an ethereal space. The chilling synths glisten beautifully over a precise and driving drum pattern, conjuring a beautiful soundscape that feels like floating over an imagined reality. From the first chord progression, Virtual Self pulls the listener into a new world.

‘Ghost Voices’ impressively combines elements of so many different musical styles. Porter even labeled it as Neotrance on SoundCloud. He utilizes qualities of deep, clubby house alongside the uplifting progressive sound of old school trance and rave music. The seamless flow of the music speaks to the incredible level of detail put into making the track. Incredibly reminiscent of the legendary Eric Prydz, Virtual Self’s first release definitely proves that Porter is creating a portfolio to rival the icons of the dance music world.

When Porter decides to change things up, they change drastically. Listen to ‘Ghost Voices’ to see for yourself! Check back here often to get up to date information on Porter’s Virtual Self Project.
