Above & Beyond – My Own Hymn

My Own Hymn

Above & Beyond – My Own Hymn

It’s almost time for the much awaited Group Therapy #250 at The gorgeous Gorge Amphitheatre. Ahead of their marquee event in the woods of Washington state Above & Beyond have been actively giving it a deserved build up with their recent releases. The most recent being the full of soul single ‘My Own Hymn‘. The song is out now off their progressive label Anjunabeats.

The track sees the comeback of their partner in crime in their early days, Zoe Johnston after she promised a comeback in her interview during last year’s event at the Ziggo Dome. Her ever so beautiful voice accentuates the feel of what I consider is more than a track as it transcends the emotions of so many of us. The progressive tune radiates a chilling vibe that never gets old no matter how many times you listen to it. The transition of the track is smooth as the tension builds and stays there before it takes a progressive path with the vocals blended in smoothly. In Tony’s words ‘My Own Hymn‘ is “mmmmmm”. When asked, Zoe Johnston gave a profound description to the lyrics. She said

“My Own Hymn” is an ode to compassion, forgiveness and celebration of the self. It’s about climbing out of suffering. Most of us have the freedom to make choices in life. We can choose to alter our perceptions, especially if they are proving harmful to our souls. We can also choose to ignore the perceptions of others if they are causing damage or doubt. If the songs containing other people’s scripts don’t ring true, we can write our own hymns of kindness, to celebrate the good in us, and make a decision to tip our chins to the sun again.”

My personal journey as an AnjunaFam has been nothing less than magical. From witnessing them live at ABGT # 001 at the Jayamahal Palace Bangalore to the Spook Therapy in New York last year it has been surreal.

We feel the love and we are sure that is what it will be all about when this fab tune is played next weekend at the Gorge. Enjoy the track and let us know what you think about the inventive video.
