Blow a kiss, fire a gun
All we need is somebody to lean on

These words were probably sang at some point in time by most of you reading this article. Major Lazer and co-producer DJ Snake featuring pop singer MØ have just reached the “Billion Plays Club” on Spotify with their anthem ‘Lean On’. Currently at 1,001,715,849 streams and growing, ‘Lean On’ is the fourth song to join this coveted list.

The only three other songs in this list are:

  • ‘One Dance’ by Drake – 1,256,804,664 streams
  • ‘Shape of You’ by Ed Sheeran – 1,083,168,080 streams
  • ‘Closer’ by The Chainsmokers – 1,043,666,310 streams

Furthermore, ‘Lean On’ pushed the careers of Major Lazer and DJ Snake even further into stardom. This song also put MØ into the playlists of many people. Little did these artists know that they created a summer phenomenon for 2015 and 2016. As well as this song is doing on Spotify, it is also performing even better on Youtube with 2,087,326,557 views.

The capability of reaching one billion streams is seen as a coveted prize now more than ever. With these streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music, artists are now able to break frontiers with their music.
