The Bowery Presents Announces Largest General Admission Venue in Brooklyn, In Talks Of Being Acquired by AEG Live

The Bowery Presents
has announced that they are now bringing event attendees and music lovers “the largest general admission venue in Brooklyn.” The production and management company that also owns Terminal 5, Music Hall of Williamsburg, Rough Trade and Bowery Ballroom, are now turning a former 20,000 square foot former steel fabrication shop into a 1,800 capacity ballroom called Brooklyn Steel.

Scheduled to open in April 2017, the venue will have state-of-the-art amenities while keeping its grungy, industrial look. Amenities include a movable 39-foot-by-24-foot stage which “will allow the performance area to be enlarged or shrunk as needed.” The venue will also have “raised platforms and a mezzanine,” three bars throughout the venue, and “three dressing rooms with full bathrooms with washers and dryers.”

To keep sound from exiting the venue, they have built a “green roof,” in which sedum growing on top of the building will absorb noise – similar to the one at Barclays Center. They believe this venue will “fill a gap in the New York music scene.” They want to cater this venue to mostly indie-rock shows and have already booked acts including The Pixies, PJ Harvey, The Decemberists, Tycho, and Animal Collective.

With an effort to get a stronger presence on the east coast, AEG Live is in the works of acquiring Bowery Presents around the same time the new venue is to be opened. Bowery Presents is one of the largest independent promoters in the country and has music halls and clubs all up and down the east coast. It would only make sense from a business standpoint for AEG Live to go move forward with such an acquisition.
