Ministry of Sound Acquired by Sony UK

One of dance music’s most storied labels is giving up the independent life to join Sony’s British team. Ministry of Sound began as a famous British nightclub that grew into a label in 1993. Since then the label grew into one of dance music’s most successful, with album sales totaling 70 million, 40 UK #1 albums and 20 top singles. To this day Ministry of Sound is rocking the scene with frequent live stream sets where artists go all out.

As part of the purchase Sony UK will get the entire catalog, artist roster and compilation series. Today the label boasts DJ Fresh and London Grammar among its roster, but the label helped launch the career of many top producers. Ministry of Sound’s chief executive seemed thrilled about the future of the 2 brands.

“I’m delighted we have found the right home to grow Ministry of Sound Recordings at a global level while keeping its unique identity”
