Kygo Closes Out the Olympics [Video]

While dance music has grown enormously in America, we all know the day when a DJ/producer plays the Super Bowl Halftime Show is at least 10-20 years off. However the rest of the world is way ahead of us in recognizing the viability of the genre, as producers are widely featured in soccer tournaments and of course, the Olympics. It was still pretty shocking to learn that the 2016 Olympics would be closed out by the Norwegian producer, Kygo.

Not only did Kygo do a live performance for one of the world’s largest television audiences, but he did it in the rain. In the videos that popped up you can see him performing “Carry Me” from his Cloud Nine album accompanied by the live vocals of Julia Michaels. Kygo could barely contain his own pride at reaching such a milestone saying:

“The opportunity to be a part of the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games in Rio is a huge milestone in my career and it will be the biggest performance of my life,”

So we’ll keep waiting for a dance music producer to play the Super Bowl, but we can rest assured that dance music is very much a global phenomenon.
