Hitting The Books With Hyperbits: Week 2

hyperbits""

Last week we started what will become an eight-week long series covering a masterclass session with Hyperbits. Over the course of this series, we hope to give all of you lovely readers and producers an inside scoop on what goes on in one of the most informative and motivational online classrooms you can find. While the first week covered some more fundamental ideas such as workflow and finishing music, the second week starts getting into the more gritty technical side of sound design and composing musical ideas.

The whole goal of producing music is to…..well, produce and finish songs. This week, we dove in depth on how to best dodge creative road blocks and how to use the tools you have to sketch out different ideas. The biggest road block many of us face is the sound design aspect of producing, as it can take you out of the creative space and into a more technical and logical head space. While it may seem like a taboo, Hyperbits could not stress enough the benefits of utilizing sound banks and presets. Through the Hyperbits methodology, we learned a very specific strategy to effectively and deliberetely tweak existing sounds to make them our own. On top of that, you could heavily process those sounds through creative effects afterwards as well, but again, using these presets is meant to kickstart creativity and get those juices flowing.

With that in mind, he shared a wealth of information on where to turn for some of the best Soundbanks. There are plenty of sub-par banks out there, so to have his professional take on the matter to help sift through all the clutter and noise was invaluable.

1) Vandalism Sounds – He highly recommends these banks due to their modern and commercially viable sonics. This company is constantly updating their banks to where any sound you hear on a top 40 track, Vandalism has a bank or soundest to match it within a few weeks.

2) Cymatics – Their sound bank game is next to none when it comes to future bass a trap sounds. These guys know how to use Serum, and if you haven’t heard about these guys it’s high time you check them out.

3) Freshly Squeezed – This sample company, who also does incredible artist sample packs, is great for a progressive sound all the way to a more melodic trance sound. Their plucks and pads are lush and spacious, and ideal for trying to get that Audien chord sound.

4) Freaky loops – These guys have a lot of great wobbly and deep bass sound. Anything from dubstep to future bass sounds can be found here, and these guys make some excellent Massive presets for anything in that ballpark

5) Artist Soundbanks – There are tons of these floating around for a variety of different artists. Seven Skies has released banks for a handful of different synths, as well as guys like Jody Wistrnoff. These banks are key, as they release the sounds that these artists are actually using. These tend to be usually of a higher quality, as they are the sounds these guys are using in their actual productions.

That is all we have for this week guys! Next week we move onto some tech-talk stuff about mixing and processing different sounds. As said above, this class is already looking to be one of the best online classes available so for more information on this masterclass series head over to the Masterclass page now to get more info.
