‘Mau5trap Presents’ Debuts On Apple Music’s Beats 1

deadmau5 was more than a busy man last week. First, he threw a fit at a Spotify MMW event, claiming that he showed up and nothing was hooked up. Joel then set Miami on fire (figuratively) when he and Eric Prydz ripped up the stage with a back to back set at a Sirius XM party.  The excitement didn’t end there, as the mau5 was also a last minute addition to the Live Stage at Ultra Music Festival on Saturday night.  He filled in the headlining 11PM-12AM time slot for The Prodigy after it was revealed that the group was unable to perform. deadmau5 carried this momentum into Sunday, where he threw down some huge hits at Armin van Buuren’s ASOT stage and joined Pendulum on the main stage for a live rendition of “Ghosts N Stuff”.

Before most of this chaos ensued, deadmau5 and his Mau5trap label premiered its first ever Beats 1 Radio show for Apple Music.  deadmau5 controlled both hours of ‘Mau5trap Presents’ this week.  He started off the first hour with the fellow Canadian Tim Hecker’s track “The Piano Drop”.  Then, Joel took us into his world and played some tracks he said he really enjoys including a classical composition of Phillip Glass, which was an interesting change of pace.

The second hour was when deadmau5 said it was time for him to go “in the mix”.  He began with another Tim Hecker track, “Sketch 5”, then rattled off a number of his label’s releases.  Joel included tracks from Mau5trap artists like BlackGummy, No Mana, Matt Lange and BSOD. With that in mind, the second half was more than just mau5trap tunes, as he also included singles from Jeremy Olander and Maceo Plex.  He closed out the mix with two songs of his own in “Avaritia” and “Coelacanth II”.  Thankfully, a Mixcloud user was able to record and post this first episode of ‘Mau5trap Presents’ for everyone.  The stream and tracklist are available below.
